New vlog, guys! I hope you enjoy my reenactment of what happened when Wil Wheaton tweeted me, and how I recovered!

It’s embarrassing, but hey, what would happen if someone you looked up to acknowledged your existence?

As an artist and creator, I spend more time than I should wondering if my work actually means anything to anyone. I mean, when I write a story or make a Thing, I satisfy this weird creative urge that all artists have (it’s a thing that’s broken in our brains), and that’s awesome… but I’d be lying if I said making it was enough. The truth is, creators and performers need an audience to create and perform for, which brings me back to spending too much time wondering (read: obsessively worrying) if anyone gives a shit.

But in my life, there’s this other thing, too, where I have an opportunity to somehow touch a life (that I’d never touch otherwise) because of the things I create. When I saw this video, I was embarrassed that a thing I did mattered to Victoria enough for her to make a vlog about it… but then I was all, “This is awesome, and look how happy she is, and how funny, and when our lives intersected for a grand total of about 25 seconds over Twitter, this was the result for her.”

I’m incredibly grateful that I get to do more with my work than just make things, and when she meets a real celebrity, instead of someone who’s just Internet Famous like I am, I hope they’re awesome to her.
