The Gammarizer: Bringing Your Town to Gamma Terra →
The Gammarizer is my attempt at a semi-random adventure generation tool for Gamma World. You start with a location all the players are familiar with (like your hometown) and then change it to fit into the post-apocalyptic setting of Gamma Terra, and in the process, generate an adventure on the fly. This method focuses on using the elements of a setting and altering it to connect to the origins of...

The cables show the extent of US spying on its allies and the UN; turning a blind eye to corruption and human rights abuse in “client states”; backroom deals with supposedly neutral countries; lobbying for US corporations; and the measures US diplomats take to advance those who have access to them.
This document release reveals the contradictions between the US’s public persona and...
Two days in a row, in two different places, twenty miles apart, I’ve seen two hawks circle in the sky above me.
I know it’s simple coincidence, but I like to believe that they’re the same pair, soaring gracefully and beautifully, just for me, so I don’t forget to appreciate the simple beauty of the world around me.
Alternatively, they are stalking me, waiting for me to...

Nerdist podcast number 46: MATT SMITH →
Chris Hardwick, the only person I know who is a bigger Doctor Who fan than I am (barely … barely), landed the interview of a lifetime.
Even though my phone mysteriously erased the message I’m sure he left for me inviting me to come over and hang out quietly IN THE SAME ROOM AS MATT SMITH, I am thrilled for Chris.
Oh, it’s also a delightful interview.

That this question even needed to be asked and answered is all the evidence anyone needs that the TSA is completely out of control.
(Also, I haven’t done a whole lot of research, yet, but I can say with complete confidence that someone who is politically connected to Bush and Obama is making money off of these new “security” policies.)
That’s exactly what happened....

'Refudiate' Now Proper English →
The OED declared “refudiate” its word of the year, and I feel a little silly, because for my whole life I thought dictionaries were tools we used to increase intelligent communication.
Paul and Storm » Oh Noes! They Took Mah Geetarr! →
Storm’s guitar was stolen from US Airways baggage claim at O’Hare airport today, and I’m hoping that we can all work together to harness the power of the Internet to find it and make sure it gets back to him.
We went to the US Airways baggage center and asked about it, and if it might have come out anywhere else by mistake. The people there—who, we must note, were EXTREMELY...

Posting this link because I saw joking on Tumblr about how Veterans Day was a day to recall that “war is an option” or a reminder that we can solve problems with violence. That’s missing the point, people. Veterans Day is Armistice Day, a reflection on the end of a dreadful conflict, not a celebration of its existence.
Veterans Day is meant to recognize and solemnize our respect for...
